Love your shopping strategies. he best shopping I do is when I'm on holiday as you can wander with fewer constraints and a little more pocket money to spend. Am going to go in March to MF and will combine with a trip to Masterton Farmers Market which I've yet to go to.

I'm not that good at it yet, I'm still learning and just riding on the coat tails of more experienced Martinborough Fair goers ;)

However, my BF can spend 4 and a half hours shopping just in The Warehouse. After 10 minutes I'm heading for the razor blade aisle.

I am just crap at shopping. I accept it - and just live in awe of people who can shop for hours. I just don't know how you do it :)

Ha! Have been four or so times and even so we still manage to be shopping when they are packing up! Have managed some nice bargains from sellers who didn't want to lug stuff home again.

That's after arriving the previous evening, staying two blocks from the square and getting to the fair at 8 am. We park 2 cars almost next to the pitches the night before, then toddle back to our beds after dinner out.

I pick up cards for the expensive things I covet too, you never know when you'll have the cash and cannot remember what is was you wanted to buy ;)

I went last year and vowed never again - we were invaded by a mob of around 50 male trolls. Think flesh coloured pantyhouse ( leaving nothing to the imagination) , bare chests and coloured wigs - they were all trolleyed before they got into the ground just before 6pm!!! And teh tickets cost $195 each so not should of $400!

Comment on Why are Licenced Immigration Agents STILL guaranteeing visas? by Avalon

Hi Howard,

My issue is that you are licenced to give immigration advise. By a law that makes it illegal for anyone without that licence to give that advice.

How then can any of you give any recruitment/employment advice without being licenced to do so? A recruitment agent doing your job would be in big trouble with the law - why do you think you should have the right to do thier job and take money from them?

If people giving Immigration advice without a licence are a danger to Migrants, and migrants must be protetected from them, then it is only fair that Immigration agents should stay away from giving advice in other fields that they are not licenced in. To have the situation otherwise is gross hypocrisy in my view.

Also, there shouldnt be ANY bad apples. Licencing was supposed to remove them. Theres only 500 licences, so with so few its actually laughable that there are still people getting licences that shouldnt be. It makes a mockery of the law. Why are the IAA not taking a stand in sorting this out? They can read magazines as well as I can. They can see quite clearly that agents they licenced are guarenteeing visas, which clearly breaks the code of conduct. They just aren't doing anything about it. Which is pathetic.

So no, while I understand your point of view - I do not think you should be giving any advice on employement issues. You should work with a properly qualified recriutment agency and allow them to do thier job. It's only fair - if they were to do to you what you are doing to them, they could go to jail.

HTH :)

I wish to addres the matter regarding Immigration Advisers commenting on employment related issues especially promising job offers to prospective migrants, a hot topic. Depending on the experience of the immigration adviser & his/her contact throught the employment industry eg links with employment recruitment companies or employers, their experience can be instrumental in locating an offer of employment for prospective candidates for NZ.

After 25 years in the Immigration Industry, with over 11 years as an immigration officer, my role was/is to vist employers throughout NZ & deal directly with them in regards to employment of migrants, so becoming an adviser, i am able to use my skills to best advise clients accordingly. I DO NOT promise anything in regards to a guarantee of success in obtaining a work visa or residence in relation to an offer of employment, how can anyone do this as they are not IMMIGRATION NZ who processes the application in terms of policy.

I however symphathise with migrants who PAY for job offers especially from offshore & arrive to find no job or even doubtful immigration advice in the first place. Thank you, for the IAA complaints procedures in this instance. But to think that we advisers cannot be a benefit to migrants in finding suitable employment for them is simply wrong, we can greatly assist them with our experience & expertise & many of us have long standing relationships with leading employers in NZ to place migrants in suitable positions.

A few rotten apples have appallingly represented clients with false promises, shame on them, but please accept that there are advisers that know the employmant markets here in NZ, can counsel sound advice in respect of employment issues & professionally represent their clients on immigration matters to a successful result for all concerned.

As far as I can tell, that pathetic comment came in from Wichita in the USA.

The irony that Americans are probably the most hated people in most countries right now is presumably lost on the kind of ignorant tosspot who would make such nasty comment.

Hopefully this person will stay right where they are :)

For me - no matter where you come from (Philipines or the USA) - if you move to another country, work, make friends and are a decent person - good on you and good luck :)

New Flags?

So, they spend money on flags, but cant afford the Wi-Fi, then 11 months later sort the Wifi out and then order new flags?

Let me guess - big pay rise on the cards for the Lower Hutt Council CEO ;)
