Yep – it really is done!
The five smaller beds contain all the culinary herbs – with the ones I use most in the near beds. One of the larger beds at the back contains Fragrant Herbs – some of which, like Roman Chamomile and Pennyroyal, also create a fragrant lawn you can sit on. And the other larger bed is for Medicinal herbs: things like German Chamomile, pyrethrum, and feverfew.
I’m planning on buying some Adirondack Chairs to go just about here, so that I can sit back and relax with a good book and a glass of wine. While the beds themselves are designed so that you can happily sit on them, I think you also need somewhere where you can sit back in a chair.
This central bed with a Bay Tree in the middle also has two varieties of carpet thyme planted. So the plan is that they will actually create a Thyme Seat. Assuming that my totally lack of green fingers doesn’t kill everything Ive just planted!
This really has been a wonderful project to finally get off the ground. It has taken me a long time to be able to afford it, and I have to say, its come out even better than I imagined it. Sheldon has worked really hard and turned by rough sketch diagram into a garden I already love sitting and chilling in. (With said glass of wine.)
Although Sheldon doesn’t yet have a website (Ill add links when he does), if anyone is looking for a Landscaper in the Wairarapa area, I am more than happy to recommend him. He can be contacted at
Ill add a last post about where I’m getting the herbs from.
