Air New Zealand 1: Listener Magazine 0.
It seems that the New Zealand Listener magazine ran an article saying that Air New Zealand was heading towards become a budget airline on its flights to Australia. Personally I can actually attest to the fact that the flights have improved – you now get a choice of movies to watch and personal screens.
However here is the article. [Updated 19/6/2011, sorry the Listener no longer has a link to the article]
In answer, Rob Fyfe, CEO of Air New Zealand took out a 1 page ad in the papers last week (part of it shown here):

And for those of us who cant read that – take a look at the video here.

Love it! Good on them for answering back
(NZ sign language is slightly different to British SL, but I still understood it. I’m not so rusty after all)
I love air NZ. I can never understand why people who travel to NZ come with any other airline. We’ve always found them to be best value for money and the service is always better than others. I thought this was hysterical but then perhaps I’m just a sad loyal customer!
We would never fly Air NZ from the UK becuase they went through the US and we objected to the whole security FUD. Now they fly through Hong Kong we would definitely consider them. As a family we stuck with Singapore for a/ the shopping at Changi. and b/ the points which got us upgrades.
But on the whole – I have to say im pretty pleased with AirNZ on the whole. And I think Rob Fyfe seems to be doing a pretty good job of running the company.
