The life and times of a Swimming Pool

Pools- lovely to look, but you have to clean them if you want to use them. Not that we have used ours this year yet – because the summer has been a very long way away.

This is how  it starts off at the end of winter. The water is slightly green, murky and full of leaves (even with a pool cover you can’t quite stop all the leaves getting in).

So the first step is to dump some Chlorine in to get rid of the green murk.

But this still has crud in the bottom – so a bot of hoovering, filtering and backwashing is in order:

And then you end up with a clean sparkly pool all ready to play in:

With water the most stunning colour in the sunlight:

  2. I could have done with a pool in the last few days to relieve the heat of the day. Hope you’re making the most of it now that summer appears to have arrived. For now at least :o )

  4. Not so much – cos the weather has been so crap we havent kept on top of the cleaning as much – so it wasnt perfect for swimming over the last two days. ANd now the sun has gone again :(

    Dammit!

  6. Looks amazing after all that hard work and hope the sun returns soon for you to enjoy once more!

We bought a round pool from the Warehouse with a plug in filter etc. but we were lax with putting on the filter every day and adding the purification tablets. We had some fun over Christmas/New Year (when we were remembering to keep it clean) but then we kind of forgot about it and by the time the sun reappeared and we took the cover off it had turned into a health hazard and something befitting of a garden pond with worms breeding in it and goodness knows what else! My Dad, bless him, spent a full day emptying it, scrubbing it and then packing it away as I just knew we weren’t going to keep on top of it with bubs arriving any day.

I have to say it’s really nice to have my patio back and the girls are more than happy with just a little paddling pool, trips to the community swimming pool and the beach.

  8. I get what you mean. This is the first year Ive not really kept on top of it – mainly cos im stressed to the gills, and cant be bothered. Every yera before ive actually really enjoyed cleaning the pool – but not this year.

I havent even been to the beach much this year :(

Is it a downside to a built in pool, i wonder, that you cant pack it away when you dont want to have to clean it :) That woudl be so cool about now!

And good luck with the baby btw :) Fingers all crossed :)
