Yes – I can have more contempt for Immigration New Zealand.

We got my brothers extended Visitors Permit today.

We applied for 18 months, giving us time to get through the fact that INZ want to sit on their backsides for at least a year. We were advised by a “support” officer that would apply for 9 months, and we were also told by a “Technical Advisor” that we could apply for 12 months. The application form allows you to apply for 18 months, so we did. (Nothing like consistancy eh?)

Well, we got the extended permit today.

Guess how long they extended it for?

2 DAYS.

Yep – we paid INZ $130.00 for them give this family and extra 2 days togther. And they wonder why I make complaints about them. How do these people have jobs??? mad

  2. Actually – its even worse than that. The 2 days I quoted was actually based on the date of my brother’s return flight. When we checked the original permit from Auckland airport, it means that INZ’s “approval” of the application gave my brother exactly 0 days extension.

    Still took the $130 though.

  6. I got one even better, I went through the online extension and requested 9 months back 2003, just as I was setting up my online account INZ’s server crashed and was off line for a week. But I got an email 10 or 20 minutes later stating I was accepted but no expiration date of my extension. I tried that whole week to get into my account with no success at all. Since I had been approved I thought I had the 9 months I requested as I was working on my residency and was quoted from their website it would take that long.
I was in a court case that lasted 2 1/2 years and the court had my passport as well.
I showed up in person with my application for “work to residency” as I am self-employed in the IT field. I went into shock when the gentleman behind the counter told me I have to leave the country as I am an over-stayer for the last 6 months!
I went back with proof that the courts had my passport and could not leave and I was informed by my lawyer to appear in person to INZ each time I had to appear in court and to have a witness with me.
After being treated like I was trash because of my over-stayer status because of their server crashing and losing my account, 6 yrs later I get a phone call, how ironic, as they didn’t want to look at my application for 2 1/2 years as they are required to by their own guide lines. I was told to re-apply, I asked in the humanitiarn interview if there was a removal order or deportation order against me and the answer was no. I went online and re-applied but I could not submit my application until I check either removal order or deportion order. By doing so I lost more than half my points. I was given 30 days to leave on my own and if I did so my status would be cleaned up as I would not be burdening the govt or taxpayer in anyway.
I moved to New Zealand to better my life and now I have to spend money that I used to live on in New Zealand being bounced from country to country, going back the US is not an option as I have no one there and no place to stay plus cost me more to go back to the land I have called my home for 6 years. I never in 6 years asked the govt or taxpayer for an assistance and since I couldn’t work, helped those in nedd of computer problems for free and they intern helped me other than giving me money.
I went and re-applied from overseas as requested and now 3 months later I am still waiting for a reply, I have a family that sponsoring me and has taken me in as one of the family for 6 years and they too are upset at all this.
We were told that INZ in Samoa(western) is waiting on a police report from the US, I have a copy with me and when I went to give it to them was told they need one from the US directly as the one I have could be altered, understandably so, but by New Zealand standards my police report is way too old be of any interest(over 12 years, NZ cut off is 7 years). This has taken now 2 months as I believe they got the report, but meanwhile I had to leave Samoa and go to American Samoa as I don’t need a visa to be here being a US citizen with a US passport.
All this expense has but such a burden on my adopted family and now I am in a worse situation than ever before. There is no jobs and even less for places to stay here in American Samoa and in within the next week I will be living on the street.

Here I am a man with duel citizenship (US/Greek) with skills needed in New Zealand being removed from a secure and safe home with a family that wants me and help me to be a New Zealander(Kiwi) living on the streets of American Samoa. As my Human Rights get flushed down the toilet, how safe do you think I feel with a laptop, American passport and Social Security card as well as documents with personnal information living on the street?

INZ could care less unless I have money they can take from me.

  8. Hi Mike
OMG – I’m so sorry, I literally don’t know where to start.
Although we’ve been put through hell by NZIS, we’ve never had to contend with anyone being over stayers and subject to deportation.
Are you re-applying via Skilled Migrant, or Family Sponsorship? Everything NZIS have said to us comes down to Family Sponsorship being the lowest priority, and it’ll take a long while – doesn’t matter where the application is made (NZ, US, Samoa, anywhere), it’ll just take ages.
