We were told it would be a year before my parents got a case officer, they had one within 2 months. Other applicants got thorugh the entire process in a matter of weeks. I wait with baited breath to see what happens with my brothers application. As to why bother with medicals - well - ive made the same point myself about my Brother Jobs application - which still have to be valid in 18 months time (minimum). I think it is these facts that show the system for the farce it is, and the people running it for the idiots they appear to be. At the risk of "giving advise" - you need to look closely at the Residence Review Board - there are other people who have gone thorugh the system with a family weighting issue. From what Ive seen the odds are very slim - but I always feel its a good idea to be armed to the teeth with information and case histories to back up your case if you need it. We hoped to bring my parents out on the ballot system but they scrapped this. We have now applied under the Family Category, Parent Quota. There is a family weighting issue i.e. two siblings in the UK. My parents never see them. One is mentally ill and the other has a criminal record (Prison time)! They have signed declarations to say that they do not see my parents and fully support them moving permanently to NZ. The London NZIS web site says that it can take two years to be assigned to a Immigration Officer. After all the cost, time and hassles getting papers and medicals together in a timely fashion this seems rather a long time. Then people from the Immigration Ministers office start asking questions. It takes less than two working days for visa's to be approved. And a full investigation to take place (!) Miraculously the MA is no longer on holiday. Amazingly the 'scant' medical information provided in copious volumes so far, is suddenly sufficient to make a decision. Plus the confirmation letter from the CO turns up inside of a couple of days, not two weeks. Amazing what can happen when you go straight to the top and stop wasting time with anyone else.
