Sending Migrants home is not policy apparently.

After the uproar of the last week or so – Immigration New Zealand have finally stepped up and made a statement – and to be honest – it is actually quite calm and sensible.

INZ’s Service deliver group manager (whatever one of them is), makes some good points (not entirely dissimilar to things I’ve been saying funnily enough).

“However, temporary workers have always known that there was no certainty that their permits would be extended or that they would be able to progress on to permanent residence.

“The change in their economic circumstances is to be regretted, but it is not the result of an anti-immigrant jobs policy.”

I guess we will be snowball fighting in hell before anyone from NZIS apologises for screwing up the information given to the migrants involved.

mad

The Daily Mail article now has plenty of comments, and perhaps unsurprisingly – many of them show little sympathy with the plight of British Migrants abroad, and in fact praise the New Zealand Government for looking out for Kiwi’s first, and wish the UK Government would do the same. But it certainly brings home the point that we are now the immigrants – not the ones complaining about them.

On the other hand, The New Zealand Visa Bureau reports a sort-of warmer story about an Expat who has- it turns out- managed to overstay in New Zealand for decades, because he never knew he was not a Resident, despite being married to a Kiwi and having a son who is now in his twenties.

“I was told in London by a New Zealand High Commission staffer in 1979 that he had deleted the return passage clause from my visa, which meant I could live here as long as I wanted to with my wife. Now I know that’s just bullshit.

(Some things just don’t change do they?)grrrr

An Immigration New Zealand spokesperson have provided assurances that full consideration will be given to Mr Bull’s case, taking into account all the circumstances and information provided
