Let’s face it – for most of us, emigrating is hard. Damn hard. I know when we went through the process – there were many times that we felt we would never get there. And recently going through Parent Sponsorship – the odds seemed so overwhelmingly stacked against us that there were days it felt they were insurmountable. When you have the might of NZIS crapping all over you from a great height – how the hell do you fight it?
You just do.
Never believe that you cannot argue with NZIS. Never believe that you have to sit there and take whatever they feel like throwing at you. There is a process and a policy that they have to follow, and if they are not doing that – you do have the right to complain about it.
This is a poem from Think and Grow Rich, by Napoleon Hill. Thanks to the study group being led by Maggie at Success Leaves Clues, I finally got past Chapter two, and saw this. It says it all pretty much:
If you think you are beaten, you are,
If you think you dare not, you don’t
If you like to win, but you think you can’t
It is almost certain you wont.
If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost
For out of the world we find,
Success begins with a fellow’s will
It’s all in the state of mind.
If you think you are outclassed, you are.
You’ve got to think high to rise,
You’ve got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win a prize
Life’s battles don’t always go
To the stronger or faster man
But soon or late the man who wins,
Is the man WHO THINKS HE CAN!

You did parent sponsorship? We want to try and do this with my mom. How did that work? What did you need to do? We sort of know the requirements after all have been through migration 4 years ago and since then started looking into what we would need to do, but would be nice to hear from somebody who actually did it
Hi Lea,
Yes we have been through this, just got through the process last week.
The main thing you need to be absolutely clear on before you start is the “center of gravity”. What this means is that if you have more than one brother or sister, and they live your mums home country – then you cannot sponsor your mum.
If you only have one sibling, or none – then thats fine.
You have already passed the three year mark living in NZ- so you would be eligible. Just as long as you have spent over 6 months of each year in New Zealand thast fine. You also need to have an income of at least about $30k a year.
I will write a blog post about the ins and outs of the process tomorrow for you – as this is gonna be a very long reply the way im going
